King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is one of the UK’s largest and busiest teaching hospitals, part of King's Health Partners Academic Health Sciences Centre (AHSC), is one of the UK’s largest and busiest teaching hospitals with a turnover of nearly £1 billion, 1.5 million patient contacts a year and more than 11,500 staff based across 5 main sites in South East London.

The Trust provides a full range of local hospital services across its different sites, and specialist services from King’s College Hospital (KCH) site in Camberwell and the Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH) site in Bromley.

Applications are invited for this 10PA full time post in Dental and Maxillofacial Radiology based in the Department of Dental Radiology at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (KCHFT).

Following a Trust wide organisational change in January 2017, the General, Neuro, Breast and Dental Radiology services have come together and are now part of the Critical Care, Radiology and MEP Care Group, which is within the directorate of Networked Care.

This is an additional Consultant post to support the delivery of Dental and Maxillofacial Radiology across Kings Sites. The Department of Dental and Maxillofacial Imaging at King’s College Hospital provides routine dental radiography service to all the departments within the Dental Hospital: Acute Dental Care, Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Paediatric Dentistry, Orthodontics, Restorative Dentistry, Primary Dental Care, Community Dental Service and Special Care Dentistry. This is delivered by radiographers working on the ground floor in the main department, as well as in various satellite dental radiography units throughout the Dental Institute. The department also provides specialist diagnostic imaging led by a consultant dental and maxillofacial radiologist: ultrasonography, sialography and cone beam CT imaging. In addition to providing a routine ultrasound scanning service, the department is involved in the joint Salivary Gland Clinic with Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and one stop Neck Lump Clinic, which, together the Haematology and Oral Maxillofacial Surgery departments, offers a fast track service for patients presenting with a neck lump. Ultrasound guided biopsies are frequently used in this clinic to expedite a diagnosis to inform subsequent treatment planning. Undergraduate teaching in practical dental radiographic techniques takes place at the chairside as well as in formal didactic sessions, making use of all available radiography staff and equipment.

The Dental Radiology has a main unit/department on the ground floor of the Dental Hospital, and four satellite units on several other floors.   In the main department there are 2 cone beam CT machines, 1 ultrasound machine, 3 panoramic X-ray machines and 4 intraoral X-ray machines. There is a large well-equipped multi-purpose clinic room with a reclining examination couch, computer and microscope. In this room the Neck Lump clinic and the Routine Ultrasound clinic take place every week.   Satellite units are located in the Departments of Acute Dental Care, Restorative Dentistry, Orthodontics, Paediatric Dentistry on floors one, two, three and ground. In total there are 35 intraoral and extraoral X-ray machines in the various satellite units. These units are convenient for dentists and patients, enabling radiography to be performed at the chairside.

You must be fully registered with the GMC and hold a Licence to Practice and be on the Specialist Register, or within six months of attaining your CCT or equivalent to be eligible for interview.

The postholder will have regular contact with vulnerable adults and/or children (0-18 years), therefore this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975, and as such, it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
