Northwick Park Hospital
Applications are invited for three Consultant Anaesthetist posts based at Northwick Park/St Mark’s/Central Middlesex Hospitals and Ealing, part of the London North West Hospital Trust. The merger of Northwick Park/St Mark’s and Central Middlesex Hospitals with Ealing Hospital formed the Trust in 2014. London North West Healthcare NHS Trust is one of the largest integrated NHS Trusts in the country employing more than 8,000 staff with a budget of more than £640 million a year. We are the first Trust of its kind to provide complete hospital-based and community healthcare services to a combined population of 850,000 in the boroughs of Brent, Harrow and Ealing.
These are primarily expansion posts, which will enhance the current service delivery. Our priority is to appoint the best possible consultant anaesthetists to join our friendly, collegiate and hard-working department.
The obstetric unit at Northwick Park Hospital has approximately 5500 births per year and the post holders will be responsible for the provision of both elective and emergency care for obstetric patients.
The post holders will be joining a team of 55 consultant anesthetists/intensivists providing anaesthetic services for theatres and other areas of the hospital in addition to the obstetric unit. The appointees to these vacancies will need to be willing / able to contribute to a future shared vision with colleagues across the other hospitals in London North West Healthcare.
Northwick Park is a very busy acute hospital. It is a regional centre for head and neck surgery, vascular and major gastrointestinal surgery. Out of hours cover is provided on a 1:10 on call rota, which includes both first, and second on call responsibilities and provides cover for the general CEPOD theatre as well as obstetric services and the surgical HDU. The successful appointees will be expected to participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and clinical audit. They will be required to undertake management duties and work in a multidisciplinary team.
London North West Healthcare NHS Trust was formed from the recent merger of North West London Healthcare NHS Trust and Ealing Hospitals NHS Trust. Whilst organizationally one organization, the Critical Care Departments at the two former Trusts, operate independently. There is significant change underway in West London under the Shaping a Healthier Future proposals. Northwick Park/St Mark’s has been designated an acute site and as such its future is safe and its workload will increase. Aside from being the base of St Mark’s Hospital, which acts as a national and international referral centre for gastrointestinal diseases, it is the regional centre for Maxillofacial, ENT & Vascular surgery. Plans are underway for a significant expansion of Critical Care at Northwick Park/St Mark’s, in advance of the closure of the ICUs at Central Middlesex and Ealing Hospitals.
Applicants must already be on the GMC specialist register or within 6 months of the interview date have a certificate of completion of specialist.
