Consultant Medical Oncology with an interest in Melanoma
The Christie NHS Foundation Trust is an international leader in cancer research and development with plans to become a top-five cancer centre within the next five years. Applications are invited for a substantive full time consultant in medical oncology to join the melanoma service at The Christie.
The appointee will join a team of 38 Medical Oncology Consultants at The Christie to provide consultant level care for patients with Melanoma. This includes providing outpatient care through the outpatient clinics and day case units where Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy Treatments are delivered, as well as inpatient care on the main oncology wards. The post holder will become an active member of their Disease Groups enabling the post holder to work with the Multidisciplinary team to deliver treatment for patients and to develop trial activity hand in hand with clinical service activity.
Trial activity is embedded within clinical service activity across all Disease Groups at The Christie and the successful post holder will be expected to maintain and develop existing research and trial activity within the Melanoma Disease Group. The Manchester Melanoma Group has achieved a huge amount in the last 5 years and is very visible in the international arena, linked to The Christie hosting the second biggest melanoma practice in the UK and Professor Richard Marais’ Molecular Oncology Group which is internationally renowned for basic and translational research in melanoma. In addition the Biobank has been hugely successful in collecting melanoma samples from patients on clinical trials.
