Applications are invited for the post of full time Consultant Cardiologist at Maidstone Hospital, part of Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust.
This appointment is to the Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust and the post will be primarily based at Tunbridge Wells Hospital with potential sessions available at Kings College Hospital / St Thomas’ Hospital, London, for suitably trained candidates.
We are looking for a candidate with a specialist interest in coronary intervention. You will be expected to bring specialist cardiac skills as well as a broad general cardiac knowledge.
The successful applicant will join a team of 7 Consultant Cardiologists across the Trust and will be expected to contribute their own expertise to the team. All clinical services provided by the Trust are managed on a cross-site basis and, although the main base for this post is Tunbridge Wells, some sessions may be undertaken at other hospitals in the Trust.
There are currently two cardiac catheterisation suites, one at each major trust site and comprehensive physiology support including stress echocardiography, TOE, full Holter and BP monitoring and Tilt testing. We run rapid access chest pain, arrhythmia and heart failure services and have excellent nuclear medicine and cardiac capable CT scanning facilities. The Trust is planning to centralise Cardiology Services on one site (in the next 2 years) in preparation for offering a second primary PCI Centre in Kent and the successful candidate will be expected to play a role in shaping these local services for Kent.
The Tunbridge Wells Hospital is located in Pembury adjacent to the A21, after a three year building programme; Tunbridge Wells now has a superb new hospital. Costing £230 million, the Tunbridge Wells Hospital at Pembury welcomed its first patients in January 2011 when the Women & Children’s department transferred from the old Pembury Hospital. The second phase saw the transfer of Kent & Sussex Hospital at Mount Ephraim to the new location in September 2011. It is the first NHS hospital where all main wards are comprised entirely of single en suite bedrooms. These enable patients to have greater privacy, get a better night’s sleep and reduce the chances of infection. Most rooms have plenty of natural daylight and views over the surrounding forest which further aid a good recovery.
Maidstone Hospital is located within a short distance of the town centre, which offers a range of amenities including shops, bars and restaurants and has excellent access to motorways and a good train service to London and the continent. In West Kent there are many high-performing schools ranging from pre-school and primary to secondary school education, including grammar schools, special needs schools and some of the top private education institutions in the country.
Qualifications required are MRCP or equivalent, full GMC registration and inclusion in the GMC specialist register for cardiology or within 6 months of completion of specialist training (CCT) at the date of interview.
