Consultant Paediatrician with interest in Acute Paediatrics and Paediatric Emergency Medicine

Hours 10 PA’s Employer Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust Salary £79,860 - £107,668 depending on experience

Applications are invited for this new substantive post created to support the planned developments in the urgent care pathway which are part of a region wide strategy and to ensure the current provision of care to children within Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust.

This would involve leading the introduction of strategies aimed at improving safety, quality and efficiency and supporting other regional transformation plans. The successful applicant will be based at Derriford Hospital, the largest healthcare site operated by Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust, based on the northerly outskirts of the city of Plymouth. Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust is the largest healthcare trust in the South West of England and provides care for half a million people in Plymouth, West Devon and East Cornwall.

A range of tertiary services also provide highly specialised care for two million people from nearby counties. The Trust has a busy, friendly and dynamic department of Children and Young People’s Health. A comprehensive Care Programme for Children and Young People has been initiated to oversee the care of children and young people throughout the Trust (scheduled and unscheduled care, medical and surgical problems), ensuring safety, quality and efficiency of all services.

This post represents a challenging and exciting opportunity to contribute to the Care Programme and to work in a thriving department in a beautiful part of the country. Plymouth University Peninsular School of Medicine and Dentistry (PUPSMD) has been praised by the GMC for its innovative approach to undergraduate medical education.

The curriculum is based around problem based learning and has been highly ranked by our graduates in how they felt prepared for postgraduate medicine.

Your role will include important opportunities to engage with undergraduate education, in both the hospital environment and the school itself, to continue this vital job of producing tomorrow’s doctors and allied health care professionals.
