Consultant Radiologist with an interest in Breast Imaging

Applicants are invited to apply for the Consultant Radiologist post with a specialised interest in Breast Imaging.
The Imaging Department is based at two sites, Ashford Hospital and St Peters Hospital Chertsey. The modalities include general radiography, fluoroscopy, CT, ultrasound, mammography and Intervention. The MRI service is currently provided by Alliance Medical. Breast MRI is performed using the new Philips Ingenia 1.5T unit
The Department has a Managed Equipment Service contract which ensures equipment is regularly maintained and replaced with state of the art equipment.
The successful applicant will join a team of four friendly and enthusiastic general radiologists with an interest in Breast Imaging. They work closely with Consultants Breast Surgeons and a Consultant Nurse. They have a busy unit with approximately 5600 new referrals and 260 new breast cancers per annum.
There are currently five one-stop breast clinics per week and with this new appointment the plan is to increase that number to allow all new referrals to be seen in the one stop setting. Plans are also being developed for a new integrated breast unit at Ashford Hospital incorporating the Breast care nurses, Breast clinics, mammography and ultrasound in one area.
A new Hologic mammography unit with HD tomosynthesis, Clarity 2D reconstruction, stereotactic and Tomosynthesis biopsy including side arm and a dedicated Secureview workstation has recently been installed.
Radiotherapy and chemotherapy is delivered by St Luke’s Hospital based at Royal Surrey County Hospital. Recently the use of Magseed marker localisation which has replaced the use of wires for many localisation procedures has been implemented.
There are links with the KSS training scheme and provide both core and specialist training in breast radiology. In addition, weekly MDT meetings for both Benign and Malignant cases, take place at St Peter’s Hospital.
The opportunity to report from home is in the process of being implemented to allow more flexibility in job plans and aid work life balance.

Applicants are required to be fully registered and must be on the GMC’s Specialist Register or be eligible for admission to the Register within six months from the date of interview for the post.
