Consultant Cellular Pathologist
Brighton & Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust is looking for an experienced and driven Consultant Histopathologist with ambitions to lead and develop clinical and academic Cellular Pathology services as the Clinical Lead. The successful candidate will join an enthusiastic team of 10 existing consultants and 2 new consultants (to be appointed) in the Department of Histopathology and Cytopathology at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton. The 3 new posts have been created in recognition of the rising demand for Cellular Pathology services and the need for strategic leadership, planning and development in the face of challenges but also excellent opportunities for modernisation through technology, advancing scientific and clinical capabilities, and new ways of working. This is an exciting time to join the Trust as it enters a new era of operation resulting from the 3Ts development programme, the Pathology Department itself as we progress network collaborations in digital pathology and genomics, while Brighton & Sussex Medical School is building on the success of Project 200.
The department has a large and varied workload and has a system of subspecialisation: a variety of specialist interests can be accommodated (especially applicants with an interest in Gastrointestinal Pathology, Hepatopathology, Urological Pathology, Dermatopathology, Breast Pathology or Non-gynae cytopathology).
The histopathology department plays an important role in teaching of Histopathology trainees that rotate through the department and teaching at the Brighton and Sussex Medical School. Candidates with an interest in undergraduate teaching, an academic interest, and experience of research in diagnostic pathology are encouraged to apply. Appointees will be supported in developing research interests.
