MYDoc Registrar - Neurology

Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust is pleased to announce the introduction of these new roles aimed at doctors who are passionate about their practice and their career outside traditional models.  Our posts will combine education and career development with practical patient-facing care.

These posts are not recognised UK training posts.  Nevertheless, MYDoc doctors will have a named supervisor and be supported in undertaking scheduled educational opportunities to consolidate and develop alongside their experiential learning, with certificated outcomes or credentialing to support career progression through other routes.

An Introduction to the Division/Specialty from Dr Judy Archer- Clinical Lead for Neuroscience

The neurology team at Mid Yorkshire currently has an establishment for 6 consultant Neurologists, 1 consultant physiotherapist, 10 specialist nurses, 2 specialist registrars and 1 junior doctor, who are supported  by a dedicated clinical secretarial team, with office and networked computer facilities.

Our team provides general and specialist in-patient and out-patient services including:

  • a variety of specialist services to include: headache, MS, MND,  Parkinson’s disease and epilepsy
  • an effective in-reach service supporting the acute wards within the Trust
  • elective day case procedures on the medical infusion unit
  • a comprehensive radiology Neuro- MDT
  • a comprehensive specialist nurse service to patients

Our acute services are based on the modern and spacious Wakefield (Pinderfields Hospital) site. Our department delivers a substantial amount of elective outpatient activity, with a general neurology clinic template being around 4- 5  NEW Patients at 40 minute intervals  or  8 follow ups at  20 minute intervals.

The Wakefield acute hospital base has an on-site Clinical neurophysiology department, an  hyper acute and acute stroke unit, as well as a regional spinal injuries centre. This is complimented by a stroke and neuro rehabilitation unit at Dewsbury Hospital and a stroke rehabilitation unit at Pontefract Hospital.

Our Trust supports personal development in areas such as education and research.

Members of the team are part of the fortnightly neurosciences management meeting alongside nursing and other medical colleagues, as well as our senior clinical and operational management team.

These posts will be part of our cross site “senior trainee” rota – which is compliant with working time regulations and the 2016 junior doctor’s contract, averaging 48 hours per week.
