We are seeking to appoint 3 enthusiastic full time Consultant Anaesthetists with interest in Chronic Pain management to join our dynamic multidisciplinary pain team at Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS trust. The demand for our pain services is ever increasing, and this is an exciting time to join our team, as we are improving and expanding our services. Successful applicants will join an enthusiastic team of 4 committed and respected consultants currently providing chronic pain services at the City and other community sites. They join a team of further 44 consultants providing a separate general anaesthetic, critical care and on-call service. Anaesthetic team feels extremely proud to have received the prestigious “Anaesthetic and Perioperative Team of the year” award at this year’s BMJ awards. Critical Care service at the trust was rated as “outstanding” in the most recent CQC report.
The post attracts initially 10 programmed activities (PA’s) including on call and 2 supporting professional activities (SPA’s). The anaesthetic sessions can be tailored to individual’s sub-specialty interests. The on-call responsibilities are for the general on call rota at Sandwell site. Individuals with interest in acute pain or wishing to work purely chronic pain sessions with no on-call commitments are also welcome. Ideas of new clinics and innovative ideas in chronic pain will be supported. As a family friendly department, we are able to offer this position as full time or part time. We are also able to offer flexible working hours to tailor to individual’s needs. All consultants within the department currently work their anaesthetic sessions flexibly at both the City & Sandwell sites.
The applicant must be on the GMC specialist register or, if currently in training, must be eligible to be on the specialist register for anaesthesia within six months of the interview date. In addition to the clinical responsibilities the department is looking for enthusiastic candidates who will bring new skills, knowledge and techniques to the department. It is essential that Consultants joining the department are innovative, flexible and committed.
