Consultants in Medical Microbiology & Infectious Diseases (2 posts)
Full time - 10 PAs
These are two of three new Infection Sciences consultant posts recently created at King’s College Hospital: two in Microbiology (these posts) and one in Virology. This expansion underscores the Trust’s commitment to continue to deliver world class Infection services for our patients, representing one of the most complex case mixes of any teaching hospital.
For these two full-time 10 PA Microbiology posts we seek to recruit two Consultants, either Consultant Microbiologists or Consultants dually accredited in Microbiology & Infectious Diseases. They will join our current team of nine Infection Sciences consultants at King’s College Hospital Denmark Hill site.
King’s College Hospital is a world class teaching hospital delivering services across three sites (Denmark Hill, Princess Royal University Hospital and Orpington Hospital) and one of the largest foundation Trusts in the country. It serves the local populations of Southwark, Lambeth, Bromley and Bexley. In addition to providing services to our local community, we have a large number of regional services covering the Southeast including trauma and orthoplastics, cardiac, cardiothoracic surgery, hyper-acute stroke, diabetology, cystic fibrosis and a number of national and internationally recognised specialist services: haemato-oncology (including stem cell transplantation and CAR-T), neurosciences (including neurosurgery), paediatric and adult liver transplantation, and foetal medicine.
Our ambition is to be an outstanding local hospital for our community and a centre of specialist clinical and research excellence. Additionally, we work with King’s College London to offer training, education and clinical placements for medical, nursing and dental students. We are also proud to be a founding member of King’s Health Partners, a collaboration to deliver bench to bedside solutions to improve patient health and wellbeing.
As well sharing general Infection management responsibilities and laboratory-based duties with seven Consultant Microbiologist colleagues at the Denmark Hill site, the appointees will expand our clinical services (including outpatient antimicrobial therapy) and specifically develop further our services for infections of the respiratory tract (including paediatric and adult cystic fibrosis) as well as general, colorectal and urological surgery.
Potential applicants are welcome to visit the department and discuss this post.
