CONSULTANT in Medical Microbiology OR Medical Microbiology & Infectious Diseases

10 PROGRAMMED ACTIVITIES PER WEEK + 2 PAs on call

Applications are invited for the above Consultant post for the Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The successful applicant will be expected to deliver clinical and diagnostic infection and medical microbiology services; antimicrobial stewardship activities; laboratory diagnostic oversight and support for infection control services working with the Director of Infection Prevention & Control and team, as required. The department has a very strong clinical focus and presence with daily infection ward rounds on both acute sites, daily ITU/HDU ward attendance and regular attendance at specialty MDTs in endocarditis, orthopaedic infection and haematology. There is an established fortnightly Infection clinic, close working links with Ambulatory Care and an OPAT service in development. Active participation in antimicrobial stewardship & antimicrobial ward rounds is expected. The department has a strong and active research focus and a track record nationally & internationally in translational research & innovation. The out of hours on call commitment for clinical and infection advice is 1:6.

Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the major provider of hospital services to North and Mid Hampshire and consists of three hospital sites at Basingstoke, Winchester and Andover. The post will incorporate work primarily at the acute hospital sites of Basingstoke & Winchester. There are excellent interconnecting major roads. There are frequent rail links to London and the south coast.  The urban location of Basingstoke and Andover are two of the fastest growing towns in Europe and complement the historical, cathedral town of Winchester. In-between is a network of villages and small market towns amid Hampshire’s beautiful countryside.

Applicants are required to be on the GMC’s Specialist Register in Medical Microbiology OR Medical Microbiology & Infectious Diseases, or within 6 months of their CCT date (or equivalent) at the time of the interview.
