Applications are invited for this full-time Consultant Haematology post based at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. This is a new post that has been created to address the increase in referrals and treatment options for patients with Haematological malignancies.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the current team of 9 Consultants. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will have a major interest in Myeloma. The successful candidate will be expected to develop the service within the context of the current interests of the department.

The Haematology Department has 6 Specialty Registrar posts and two Specialty Doctor posts.

The post holder will take part in the on-call rota for the adult Haematology service, and will cover the Haematology inpatients in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, provide advice to colleagues in primary and secondary care, and cover the Haematology laboratory (this will become a 1 in 7 with prospective cover).

Aberdeen Royal Infirmary serves a population of approximately 640 000 and is located at the Foresterhill site, together with the University of Aberdeen Medical School, the Aberdeen and North East Scotland Transfusion centre, Roxburghe House, the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital and the Aberdeen Maternity Hospital. The dedicated Haematology Inpatient unit opened in 2013 and comprises 23 beds. The Haematology Outpatient department and Day Therapy unit were refurbished in early 2010. A new combined Haematology and Oncology outpatient and day therapy facility, the ANCHOR centre, is due to open in 2022 and will be immediately adjacent to the new Radiotherapy unit on the Foresterhill site.

Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from date of interview or eligibility for specialist registration (CESR).

Full registration with a licence to practise with the GMC is required. For more information visit www.gmc-uk.org
