CONSULTANT IN CARDIOLOGY (with sub-speciality interest in cardiac imaging)

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team of highly motivated professionals, in a progressive department, providing high quality cardiology services to the people of Somerset.

We are looking to appoint a consultant cardiologist (replacement post) with an interest in cardiac imaging for a substantive appointment at Musgrove Park Hospital to join the 9 other cardiology consultants.

The department has a thriving echocardiography service undertaking >8000 scans per annum. We have a daily complex echocardiography list including dobutamine stress and transoesophageal studies. An echcardiographer led Sonovue and bubble contrast service commenced over 18 months ago with plans to expand the service to include physiological stress testing with a supine bicycle.

Cardiac MRI and coronary CT services are well established, with a cardiac enabled CT scanner (Siemens 256 slice Flash) performing >700 scans per annum with view to expand with a second cardiac scanner (a GE Revolution) in the near future. We also have 3 cardiac capable MRI scanners (Siemens) and currently provide >600 clinical scans per annum.

The department provides 24/7 primary PCI for the whole of Somerset ~600,000 population, providing a total of 1000 PCIs and 1500 angiograms. There is an established CTO program and IVUS/OCT/and rotablation used routinely. We also have a complex device service, implanting 150 CRT/ICD and 450 bradycardia devices.

Non-invasive investigation facilities include, 24-hour and 7-day ECG monitoring, exercise stress testing, and ambulatory blood pressure monitoring.

We have 6 specialist nurses undertaking heart failure, chest pain and arrhythmia clinics and 2 dedicated research nurses.

The post has a commitment to providing a weekend CCU and post-take ward round (3 hours Sat/Sun) on a 1 in 6 basis but no other out of hours on call commitment.
