Applicants are invited to apply for the role of Clinical Fellow in Frailty/GIM.

The post is a fixed term contract with the post holder working 3 days per week (days will be negotiable with the Clinical Director and successful post holder). The post will provide applicants the opportunity to gain further experience in Frailty and Medicine for Older People. There will be opportunities for the successful applicant to develop appropriate clinical skills and undertake audit/quality improvement programs.

The Department of medicine for Older People (DMOP) delivers care in 2 inpatient geriatrics wards (5A and 5B), a frailty unit based on ward 1A, community frailty services for St. Helens and Knowsley, 2 intermediate care units (Duffy based at St. Helens hospital and Newton cottage hospital), as well as The Hyper acute and acute stroke units (5C and 5D). We also provide some inpatient general medical cover on 1 half of 3C. We provide in-patient and out-patient care for a range of conditions presenting on the older person and our consultants offer specialist interests and expertise in falls, orthogeriatrics, surgical liaison, frailty, dementia and delirium, movement disorder and stroke. We work closely with colleagues throughout the trust as the majority of inpatient work involves the frail older person. We have particular links with AMU and the AED providing in-reach frailty assessment.

The department has an active educational program with twice weekly meetings on a Wednesday and a Friday lunchtime, which everyone is encouraged to attend. We actively support involvement in audit and quality improvement initiatives. The Hospital has a clearly defined programme of clinical audit and clinical governance. All specialities spend the same session quarterly on audit allowing an exchange of views between specialities and encourage multi-disciplinary audit. A clinical audit information system has been installed. The Trust has recently revamped the research department and combined it with clinical audit.

The successful candidate will be expected to have certification in ALS and will be expected to have a full Registration with the GMC at the time of appointment. Candidates without GMC will progress if shortlisted for interview, though will be expected to have full GMC registration at the time of appointment.
