Consultant Physician x4
A great opportunity has arisen due to retirement and expansion for four proactive geriatricians to join our team.
- A focus on augmenting and developing further our acute frailty services is highly desirable
- Other interests including movement disorders, falls and orthogeriatrics would be welcomed, as would an interest in peri-operative medicine.
We are particularly interested in enquiries and applications from trainees who are wishing to gain further experience in a supportive consultant post, but also who may wish to develop leadership or academically in the future.
There are currently two geriatricians and 0.5 orthogeriatricians at North Manchester. We have a highly performing multi-disciplinary team consisting of AHPs and a dedicated social worker on the AMU. We have a navigator service and a discharge to assess team to support rapid discharge, and a crisis team to support admission avoidance. Our length of stay bench marks well with peers (seven days for over 65’s and five days for all other ages) and the site has recently received a ‘Good’ overall rating from the CQC.
New appointees will have the opportunity to be part of the Crumpsall Vale Intermediate Care Team, which is a brand new state of the art building on the North Manchester site. There are plans for North Manchester to be a Centre of Excellence for Frailty with potential for academic links to be created with the Manchester University for suitable candidates. The site has an excellent Navigator Service for A&E and AMU, with a fully staffed therapy and social work team for just the AMU as well. There is also a Discharge to Assess Team for other wards.
We are currently recruiting 16 extra middle grade posts for general medicine and eight Trust FY1 level doctors to ensure we have some of the best staffed wards in the region. We are also expanding our GIM consultant numbers by 5.5. New appointees will have the opportunity to be part of this massive transformation process, thanks to significant investment in the site. We will also have two Advanced Care Practitioners with an interest in Frailty.
Care Organisation: North Manchester Care Organisation:
Our new Northern Care Alliance NHS Group unites five local hospitals to deliver high quality care across the North East of Greater Manchester.
The Alliance provides the benefits of scale but delivers this locally through multiple hospital sites which make up four new Care Organisations – Bury/Rochdale, North Manchester, Oldham and Salford. Using our mantra of ‘Saving lives, Improving lives’, the aim is for our Care Organisations to work closely with the communities they serve to deliver safe, high quality and reliable care, which are trusted, connected and pioneering.
Our Care Organisations are designed to operate within our group arrangement of hospitals, community and healthcare services which bring together over 17,000 staff and the services of The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust. Our size and geographical reach means we are creating an environment each individual will be inspired and empowered by to be the best they can be. This is a really exciting time to join our new team.
