Obstetrician with an interest in (interest in Maternal Medicine)
The Birmingham Women’s & Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a consultant obstetrician to strengthen and develop the maternal medicine service. The job will consist of 10 Programmed Activities per week and may be required to be part of an annualised contract. Birmingham Women’s Hospital, in conjunction with a team of highly skilled expert physicians, delivers complex maternal medicine services to the women of the West Midlands and beyond. There are a range of disease specific, multidisciplinary antenatal clinics for medical disorders including renal disease, cardiology, rheumatological disorders, liver disease, endocrinology disorders, haematology, respiratory disease, neurology including epilepsy and diabetes.
Obstetrician Post will lead the obstetric diabetes service and has a resident night on delivery suite with a full complement of junior staff. This post has 1 SPA allocated to quality improvement science. The successful applicant will work alongside our transformation team to deliver quality improvement projects across our maternity services. The post holder must have demonstrated interest in maternal medicine with ATSMs or equivalent.
The post requires Membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologist (or equivalent), GMC registration and completion of CCT (or equivalent) and Labour Ward ATSM.
The Birmingham Women’s Hospital site is a leading provider of healthcare to women, babies and their families in South Birmingham. The hospital serves a large diverse local community, currently delivering over 8200 women per year with an equivalent gynaecological workload. The successful candidates will join a team of highly skilled and motivated specialist obstetricians and physicians to deliver expert care to women with medical complexities in a number of disease specific specialist clinics. We are a tertiary centre for perinatal care and are the regional centre for Maternal & Fetal Medicine, Neonatology and Clinical Genetics.
The Trust has a well-developed tertiary Gynaecological services; including, urogynaecology, ambulatory gynaecology, MAS and Urgent Care service. It houses the Tommy’s Centre for miscarriage research. In many areas of clinical work there are research opportunities interfacing with the University of Birmingham through Birmingham Health Partners. There is a formal TOP service in recognition of the increased service need from both the local providers needing secondary care facilities and also from the regional Fetal Medicine service.
