University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust was formed on 1 July 2018 to bring together hospitals in Derby, Burton, Lichfield and Tamworth to provide the highest quality care to patients across southern Derbyshire and south east Staffordshire. The Trust is one of the largest employers in the region with more than 12,000 staff and treats in excess of a million patients each year.

We provide a comprehensive gastroenterology and liver services and are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic hepatologist to join our Royal Derby Hospital team of 16 consultants (12 luminal gastroenterologists and 4 hepatologists). Hepatology services based at Royal Derby Hospital are provided on a separate dedicated ward at Royal Derby Hospital (RDH) and supported by six Clinical Nurse Specialists (3 viral hepatitis CNS, 3 liver/HPB CNS) and an alcohol liaison service. As well as being a dedicated hepatologist, the appointee will have the opportunity of developing a subspecialty or research interest.

Our team provides comprehensive care for all aspects of hepatobiliary disease including day-case paracentesis, liver biopsy, FibroscanÔ, diagnostic and therapeutic ERCP and EUS. We are a tertiary referral centre for PTC and TIPSS and run a specialist weekly viral clinic with in-reach services into local drug treatment centres and prisons. We liaise closely with the regional HPB surgical team in Nottingham and have a weekly joint multi-disciplinary meeting and run a weekly outreach specialist HPB surgical clinic in addition to our in-house benign HPB surgeons. Our liver transplant patients are seen in a dedicated monthly transplant clinic which is run jointly with Professor Mutimer from Birmingham on a 3-monthly basis.

Our Endoscopy suite at RDH offers a 7 room modern facility, entirely re-equipped with the latest HD instruments and performing over 20,000 procedures annually. There is a daily dedicated in-patient Endoscopy list 7 days a week and we are well supported in radiology with 4 GI radiologists and an on-call interventional radiology service.

The Graduate Entry Medical School (Nottingham University) is on site at Royal Derby Hospital and this post will have opportunities for teaching and research, including participation in CLRN portfolio studies.

The post holder will have a small commitment (once a month) to general medicine and participate in the GI bleed rota.

This is a full-time position but candidates wishing to work part-time or in a job-share are encouraged to apply. If a part-time or job-share person is appointed modification of the job content will be discussed with the appointee on a personal basis.

Candidates must be within 6 months of CCT at the point of interview.

The post will be based at Royal Derby Hospital, Derby but as a newly merged organisation, we expect flexibility to be able to work cross site should the need arise.
