Consultant in Palliative Medicine
We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Consultant in Palliative Medicine to join us here in beautiful Norfolk. Norfolk Community Health and Care NHS Trust, rated ‘outstanding’ overall by CQC in June 2018, is one of the largest community health and care service providers in the UK. The trust has begun an exciting journey to re-shape palliative care services. Our goal is to provide high quality community based palliative care to all within a model that supports patients to be cared for closer to home.
This is an exciting new full time post but applicants who wish to work less than full time are encouraged to apply.
This new post holder will work 50% of the time with the multi-professional team at Priscilla Bacon Centre for Specialist Palliative Care Services in Norwich. They will work closely with the existing three Consultants and middle grade medical team to look after patients in the 16 NHS specialist inpatient beds and will also provide some input into the community specialist palliative care team including a regular clinic. The Priscilla Bacon Centre is a training unit for Specialist Registrars, Core Medical Trainees and GP’s and also has close links with the University of East Anglia Medical School. There are exciting plans to rebuild the centre in the next 5 years to provide a new, state of the art hub for palliative care in Norfolk.
The remainder of the sessions within the job plan will be to support the specialist community element of the West Norfolk Integrated Palliative Care Service. This team are based at Norfolk Hospice Tapping House in Hillington. The hospice has Nurse Consultant led inpatient beds for last days of life and symptom management, Day Therapy, family support services and Hospice at Home.
There will be excellent peer support as you will be working within an established team of eight Palliative Medicine Consultants across Norfolk. There may also be the opportunity for pursuing professional development (such as research or teaching) and subspecialty interests.
The post holder will be part of the second on-call rota (Category A) shared with the other Consultants working across Norfolk.
Applicants must have full registration with the GMC, with a current licence to practice and be on the Specialist Register, or be within 6 months of obtaining a CCT, at the time of the advisory appointments committee.
