Department of Clinical Biochemistry

We are seeking a Clinical Research Associate wishing to pursue research in the area linking glucose sensor data with insulin pump delivery (closed loop systems) in adults, children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes.  The research is funded by the National Institute for Health Research and other funding agencies. Possession of MRCPCH (UK) or its recognised equivalent is essential.  The post would suit a doctor with training at UK ST2/3 level or above (or equivalent), wishing to gain experience in clinical and translational research.  Postgraduate training in adult endocrinology / diabetes would be desirable for this post, but not essential.

Previous experience of clinical research methodology, preferably in the field of diabetes and metabolism would be desirable as would clinical expertise in the use of insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitoring. The successful applicant will join an internationally recognised team and will be based in the Institute of Metabolic Science on the Addenbrooke's Hospital campus, Cambridge.

There will be opportunities to pursue individual research projects and to present results at international scientific conferences.  Regular contact with other researchers in this field will be expected and encouraged.

Registration and Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council will be required for this appointment. Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment and to apply for an Honorary Clinical Contract.

Key responsibilities of the post:

  • Assume leading role in research studies
  • Provide clinical care to study participants
  • Provide training and technical support to participants and collaborating sites
  • Analyse data and write scientific papers
  • Write research protocols and supporting study documents
  • Make presentations at scientific meetings

Essential Criteria:

  • Medical qualification and minimum of training to Foundation Level 2 or equivalent
  • Possession of MRCPCH or equivalent
  • GMC registration or ability to obtain registration before job commencement

Salary Scales

£33,127pa - £58,593pa StR

£32,569pa - £56,394pa SpR

£37,191pa - £47,132pa Nodal (ST3 and above)

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 12 months in the first instance.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment. This appointment also requires an Honorary Clinical Contract.
