Here at the Royal Surrey we are expanding our Consultant workforce in our ground breaking front door frailty services in order to meet the needs of our local population. We have worked closely with the Acute Frailty Network and have rapidly reconfigured acute frailty services gaining national and international recognition for our work. We have presented widely and were finalists for both the HSJ and BMJ national awards.

For those patients with markers of frailty presenting as emergencies, we recognise we need to provide consistent Geriatrician led multidisciplinary input at the earliest possible stage and throughout the admission. In the last four years we have developed an Acute Frailty Team in the Emergency floor, a 16bedded Acute Frailty Unit, a 60bedded Older Peoples’ Unit and an inpatient Older Peoples’ Advice and Liaison service (iOPAL).

This autumn we are expanding our successful frailty unit and are creating a co-located ambulatory care centre for older people with frailty. There are further development plans underway and if you would like to be a part of shaping leading cutting edge services for older people, we would love to hear from you.

We are seeking candidates with broad geriatric medicine expertise to join a department of seven other Consultants. Subspecialty interests are welcome and we would look to accommodate these in to our overarching strategy for older peoples’ care. There will be other opportunities to lead service development as we look to expand older peoples’ care across the Trust and the community. The Trust procured community services in 2018 and there are opportunities to be part of integrated care for older people in conjunction with GPs and other system stakeholders. In order to recruit the right people we are willing to tailor a job plan around a successful candidate.

The successful candidates will have CCT or equivalent and be on the Specialist Register for Geriatric medicine when they take up the post(applications are welcome from those within six months of their CCT date).

Enquires about the posts are very welcome – please contact Dr James Adams, Director of Integrated Care for Older People and Clinical Director for the Acute Frailty Service at: jamesadams@nhs.net
