Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust serves a population of approximately 550,000 people living in North and mid-Hampshire. The Trust is seeking a further permanent appointment to the existing ten Gastroenterologists, the post holder to be predominantly based in Winchester although an element of cross site working is expected. The current consultants provide sub speciality interests in upper and lower therapeutic endoscopy, inflammatory bowel disease, hepatology, nutrition, pancreatobiliary and motility/functional disease. Existing services include bowel cancer screening, ERCP and spyglass, endoscopic ultrasound, advanced GI physiology and capsule endoscopy.
The successful appointee would be encouraged to develop and lead subspecialty interests. The post holder will be involved with in-patient gastroenterology and participate in acute GI bleed on call. There is a GIM commitment currently entailing a weekend on call for the acute medical unit.
There are currently five Registrars across two sites, four CMTs and five FYI’s. There are specialist nurses for upper GI disease, inflammatory bowel disease, nutrition, hepatology as well as a GI physiologist. There is an alcohol dependency team and nutrition team. There are fully equipped and JAG accredited Endoscopy suites at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital, Andover War Memorial Hospital and North Hampshire Hospital with bowel cancer screening, ERCP, EUS and a range of interventional procedures. There are vibrant research activities supported by Research Co-ordinators and research nurses.
There is full secretarial support with an administration team consisting of a Speciality Administrator (Gastroenterology) and support staff on both hospital sites. Each Consultant has dedicated office space and supporting IT.
The successful applicant will possess membership of the Royal College of Physicians or equivalent, and be on the GMC Specialist Register for Gastroenterology and General Medicine.
The applicant must be a fully JAG accredited upper and lower GI endoscopist.
