St George’s Hospital

4 Substantive Posts available – 1 post on each of Neuro, Cardiothoracic and General Intensive Care Units
1 additional Locum Post available (Neuro or General Intensive Care Interest).

Applications are invited for the posts of Consultant Intensivist on the General (GICU), Cardiac (CTICU) and Neuro (NICU) Intensive Care Units at St. George’s Hospital.

St George’s is one of the major trauma centres in London, and additionally serves a local population of 1.3 million. As such, it is one of the few sites in the UK to provide such diversity of care on one site. The Critical Care Directorate provides 61 beds across three specialty units. The General Intensive  Care Unit
provides 23 beds supporting medicine and surgery (including trauma and
oncology services) whilst the Cardiothoracic (21 beds) and Neuro Units (17 beds) provide specialist tertiary referral care for Cardiology, Cardiothoracic and Vascular and Neurology, Neurosurgery and Stroke patients respectively. There is close collaboration between the three units.

This is an opportunity for excellent individuals to join the critical care team of a progressive London teaching hospital. This is an exciting time for the critical care directorate, with expansion arising from new developments in outreach activity over the next 12 months. This presents the perfect opportunity for new team members to support the growth of the department and develop their own interests on any of the three base units. Individuals wishing to work across more than one of the units will be supported in doing so. Candidates wishing to develop an academic interest (particularly in Neuro Intensive Care) would also be encouraged.

The posts are initially contracted for 10 PAs per week. The majority of DCC activity will be on the base intensive care unit, with the opportunity to arrange a proportion of DCC in a secondary specialty of interest which may be within the critical care directorate, anaesthesia, academia or an alternative supporting specialty. The successful candidates will be expected to join the intensive care on call rota for the unit(s) they are working on.

Applicants should have the FFICM or an equivalent intensive care qualification and have suitable experience and qualifications in any proposed secondary specialty.

Enquiries about the posts should be directed to Dr Vanessa Elliott ( - GICU Care Group Lead), Dr Dominic Spray ( - CTICU Care Group Lead) or Dr Ashleigh Sherrington ( - NICU Care Group Lead). Informal enquiries and/or visits are encouraged.

To apply for the posts please click the apply button and complete an online application form.

The closing date for applications will be Friday 11th October.
Interviews will be held on Tuesday 5th or Thursday 7th November.
