Applications are invited for a Consultant Virologist post in a large teaching hospital Trust. The successful applicant will join an established experienced colleague in delivering a clinical and diagnostic virology service to UHL and General Practitioners. These posts provide clinical virology support to a large number of immunocompromised patients and work closely with colleagues in a wide variety of disciplines including paediatrics, obstetrics, neonatology, foetal medicine, infectious diseases, genitourinary medicine, haematology and nephrology. There will be opportunity for change and development to the current virology service to bring more benefits to patients, as well as teaching and research. In particular, R&D-related activities will be strongly encouraged and supported by the current clinical virology lead.

This post would be suitable for either a medical virologist (virology or infectious disease/virology trainee) or an appropriately qualified Clinical Scientist. All applicants should have FRCPath (or evidence of equivalent training and experience) and should have either full GMC registration and should be eligible for entry on the Specialist Register within 6 months of the interview date or for Clinical Scientists be registered with the HCPC Local and Fixed Term applicants are welcome to apply.

The University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust consists of three acute teaching hospitals serving the population of Leicestershire and is fully committed to Continuing Medical Education for Consultants.

The appointment is whole time. Any consultant who is unable for personal reasons, to work whole time, will be eligible to be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis in consultation with consultant colleagues.
