Consultant in Trauma & Orthopaedics Subspecialising in Hip Surgery
This is a substantive appointment in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery to join the team of fifteen Orthopaedic Surgeons at the Maidstone & Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust. This is a replacement post, with a provisional starting date of 2nd January 2020. The successful applicant is required to assist in the delivery of both trauma and elective care.
The post is to provide elective hip surgery as well as a general trauma service when on call. Elective and fracture clinics are at Maidstone hospital, with clinics in Tunbridge Wells and peripheral hospitals if required. Day surgery lists and inpatient elective lists are in Tunbridge Wells and Maidstone and trauma lists at Tunbridge Wells. The successful applicant will be on call one in sixteen doing a week of general trauma during which all elective commitments are cancelled and one in sixteen weekends during which the Consultant is resident in the hospital 8 am to 8 pm, and available out of hours for emergencies.
The Trust provides general hospital services to a population of approximately 480,000 in West Kent and North East Sussex, and some specialist services to a considerably larger population. Tunbridge Wells is a trauma unit in the SELKaM Trauma Network.
Members of the department are heavily involved in the regional orthopaedic teaching programme and in the running of local ATLS courses.
Applicants are required to be fully registered with the GMC, have FRCS (T&O) and be on the specialist register or be within 6 months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT at the time of interview.
