Consultants in Emergency Medicine
Our friendly Emergency Department is looking to recruit two Consultants as part of a planned expansion and to replace a colleague who is relocating abroad. The successful applicants will assume a direct clinical role within the ED along with the other 5 ED Consultants to provide senior medical staff “shop-floor” presence during weekdays and provide a comprehensive one in seven weekend cover. Prospective cover arrangements are built into the job plan.
In line with RCEM guidance, and with support from the Executive team, we are aiming provide cover for 16 hours per day with consultant cover, once 10 consultants are in post.
The Emergency Department provides a comprehensive emergency medicine service for North and part of Central Bedfordshire with a rapidly expanding population upwards of 300,000. There has been a steady increase in the annual attendance to the ED with a disproportionate increase in the number of emergency medical admissions and complexity of cases. The ED now sees over 80,000 patients per year. The Emergency Department is also a dedicated Trauma Unit.
You will enjoy being part of an innovative team who are passionate about emergency medicine and who are preparing to meet the present and future challenges of the National Emergency Care Agenda.
You should be MB ChB, FRCEM (or equivalent), and be eligible for entry to the GMC’s specialist register in Emergency Medicine within 6 months. The ability to work independently, as well as part of a team, is as important as being able to cope under pressure whilst remaining calm.
An informal visit may be arranged by appointment with Dr T Larsen, Consultant in Emergency Medicine, on 01234 355122 ext 2676 or via Jo Dixon on ext 2673.
