Joint appointment with Bedford Hospital and Cambridge University Hospitals
£Attractive, negotiable remuneration package
Applications are invited for two consultant posts in the Department of Cellular Pathology at Bedford Hospital NHS Trust, with one day each week being spent at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge.
The posts are based at Bedford Hospital and are whole time in general diagnostic histopathology; cytology is not a requirement of these posts, but could possibly be accommodated by negotiation if desired. The successful candidates would be expected to take a lead in at least one diagnostic area, providing pathology support at the local MDT, while maintaining general competency across a range of subspecialties. They will spend one day each week at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, a world-renowned teaching hospital, where they will be able to pursue their specialist interest, and will have the opportunity of taking part in teaching or research if desired.
The Department of Cellular Pathology is friendly and supportive, and is located in a purpose-built building and the facilities offer a spacious, pleasant working environment. Bedford Hospital is currently established for 7 whole-time consultant histopathologists and provides the varied workload typical of a district general hospital.
A merger with the pathology department at Luton and Dunstable Hospital University Foundation Trust is progressing and the introduction of digital pathology is being actively considered. These developments will enable the Pathology Department to meet current and future challenges such as those highlighted in the Carter Report, and the successful candidates will play an instrumental role in driving forward these exciting opportunities.
Bedford is the county town of Bedfordshire and is 55 miles north of London. It is close to the M1 and A1and has good rail links to London and the Midlands.
