Applications are invited for a Consultant in Anaesthesia with an interest in Head and Neck Surgery and another post for a Consultant in Anaesthesia with an interest in Patient Safety at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust.

The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust is recognised worldwide for the quality of its cancer services. The Trust’s aim is to achieve excellence in cancer treatment and diagnosis, through partnership and collaboration. The Royal Marsden, with its partner, the Institute of Cancer Research, provides a centre of excellence for research and development, education, treatment, and care in cancer, and is the largest comprehensive cancer centre in Europe. The Trust has a five-year business and service development strategy, focused on developing and improving the provision of cancer care locally, nationally and internationally.

Key to the success of this development has been the expansion of theatres, a drive toward 6 day working, and more minimal invasive major robotic work including that in the field of head and neck and gynaecological surgery. The surgical case mix is predominantly complex major oncological surgery: Upper GI, hepato-biliary surgery, Head and Neck, lower GI, gynae-oncology, urology, sarcoma, plastics, breast surgery, endoscopy and interventional radiology. There is a dedicated 5-day per week Consultant Lead Preassessment (which includes frailty services, high risk patient Services and a CPET service).

The department is looking for consultants with comprehensive experience in anaesthesia for major oncological surgery with an interest in head and neck surgery or patient safety. You must be able to demonstrate the following essential criteria: full registration with the General Medical Council, be on the Specialist register or within six months of a Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) date at interview, a Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists, or hold equivalent qualifications and have had experience in anaesthetising for major head and neck surgery.
