Applications are invited for a new post for a substantive full-time Consultant in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery with a specialist interest in Shoulder & Elbow surgery to join a dynamic team of 4 Shoulder and 3 Hand Surgeons working within an extended Trauma & Orthopaedic team consisting of 27 Consultants.

Candidates will need to show evidence of specialist training in shoulder & elbow surgery which would include at least one senior Shoulder fellowship at an institute of eminence recognised by BESS/ SECEC. The fellowship period should be a minimum of 1 year in the speciality, covering both elective and trauma services within the program.  It is desirable that the selected candidate will increase the skill mix within the current unit. The candidate must be competent in performing and interpreting shoulder ultrasound examination for provision of the one - stop clinic. The candidate must also be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge and experience of treating shoulder and elbow conditions, both elective and trauma. East Kent University Hospitals has been proposed as one of the regional centres for performing elbow replacements in South East England, and a complement of surgeons is being established for this purpose.

This substantive post represents an exciting opportunity to work in a busy University Teaching Hospital which provides a wide range of elective orthopaedic services. We are a level 2 trauma centre for East Kent.

The successful applicant will be expected to work across both our sites at the William Harvey Hospital, Ashford as well as the Kent and Canterbury Hospital, Canterbury, and their satellite units. The job plan for the post will include cross cover for elective activity to minimise disruption to elective theatre provision when colleagues are away.

We are actively encouraging equal opportunities. The Trust operates a complete smoking ban on all sites and grounds. All posts are subject to a Criminal Records Bureau Disclosure check in the event of the post being offered.
