Consultant in Medical Microbiology
Part time (7 PAs)
Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Medical Microbiology at South Tyneside & Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust. This is a less-than-full-time post remunerated at 7 PAs and replaces a colleague who is retiring.
The Appointee will join a team of five existing microbiologists providing clinical microbiology, antimicrobial stewardship and infection prevention and control activities to the Trust and surrounding general practitioners. The Post will be based at Sunderland Royal Hospital but you will be expected to work at South Tyneside District Hospital from time-totime. Laboratory services are provided from a state-of-the art laboratory at Gateshead Health Foundation Trust, with which the microbiologists work closely.
You will contribute pro-rata to a clinical on-call rota covering the South of Tyne area and to a local rota providing out-of-hours advice to the Nurses providing the on-call Infection Prevention & Control service. For the successful candidate the Department will make all efforts to accommodate particular clinical interests and/or requests for flexible working.
The microbiologists make full use of the Trust’s up-to-date and fully-integrated electronic medical record with electronic prescribing, both of which are important tools for microbiology liaison and antimicrobial stewardship.
You must be friendly, hardworking, clinicallyorientated, flexible and willing to work as part of a team. You must have FRCPath (or equivalent) and must be on the GMC Specialist Register in Medical Microbiology & Virology, or be within six months of attaining Specialist Registration at the time of the interview.
