We are seeking to recruit a dynamic, keen and enthusiastic Medically trained Clinical Research Associate to interact with ongoing EHPC (Experimental Human Pneumococcal Carriage) projects within the Liverpool Life Sciences Accelerator (LLSA) building and Royal Liverpool University Hospital (RLUH) Clinical Research Unit (CRU) for 2 years initially. The EHPC model is the only one is the world and has been running now for nearly 10 years in Liverpool. The dynamic group, based in the new state-of-the-art LLSA building, a £25 million joint venture between LSTM and the Royal Liverpool University Hospital, has received over £7million is funding over the last 5 years. The EHPC model is of critical importance in pneumococcal vaccine development and testing and transmission dynamics.
This exciting post offers a unique training opportunity, and the intention is that the appointee will complete a higher degree (MD or PhD). The post-holder will be involved in day to day study recruitment for EHPC studies, consenting, screening, clinical examination, research governance, ethics and MHRA applications along with bronchoscopy (if desired). You will also be responsible for out of hours telephone advice to participants and logistics of running studies (calendar invites, calling/texting participants etc). You will work in an ‘8-strong’ clinical team with a clinical trials co-ordinator, several research nurses, a clinical fellow and administration staff, within a larger team including laboratory and administration staff of >20 in total.
To be successful in this role a Medical degree (MBBS/MBChB), MRCP (or equivalent) and ALS (or equivalent) are essential. You will have experience of undergraduate teaching and will be able to demonstrate that you have
previously had day to day responsibility for patient safety. You will be an excellent communicator both verbally and in writing with meticulous attention to detail and be computer literate with a good working knowledge of MS Office applications. You will have the ability to clinically assess research participants in a research clinic (outside of the main NHS building) and have excellent time management and organisational skills. Post-holders will ideally hold an NTN but this is NOT essential.

The outcome must be satisfactory to LSTM, as the duties of this post will involve direct and/or indirect contact with vulnerable adults and/or children.
