The vacancy has arisen in the Oral & Maxillofacial department for a Trust Doctor equivalent to DCT to commence 4th September 2019 for a maximum of 12 months (end date 1st September 2020). The successful applicant will have access to training study days and will have a portfolio with RCP supported by HEE YH with an 'equivalent to Completion of DCT'.
An Introduction to the Division/Specialty from Dr Chris Barker, Consultant Orthodontist
The department of Oral & Facial specialties is based at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield. The team consists of 3 Consultants in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, 1 outreach OMFS Oncology, 2 Consultants in Orthodontics, 1 P/T Consultant in Dento-Maxillofacial Radiology, 4 Specialty Doctors in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, 1 Oral Surgery StR, 3 P/T STRs in Orthodontics, 7 F/T Dental Core Trainees, 4 P/T DFTDCTs in Oral & Maxillo-Facial Surgery. The full-time junior dental staff gain experience in dento-alveolar surgery under local anaesthetic/IV sedation/General anaesthetic, complex Maxillofacial trauma, orthognathic surgery, skin cancer and oral oncology along with the full range of general Maxillofacial Surgery. A multi-tiered on-call service between Wakefield and Leeds is provided. However the appointee is resident on-call for Pinderfields Hospital only with a 1:7 full-shift working pattern. Routine and acute duties are at Pinderfields General Hospital but, when on acute call, there could be requests to give advice to the Accident and Emergency Departments at Pontefract General Infirmary and Dewsbury District Hospital. Elective, supervised work takes place at these hospitals.
These posts will be part of our cross site “junior trainee” rota – which is compliant with working time regulations and the 2016 junior doctor’s contract, averaging 48 hours per week.
