Applications are invited for one Consultant post in Respiratory Medicine at Barking, Havering & Redbridge Hospitals NHS Trust. We are seeking to appoint enthusiastic and committed colleagues to join our rapidly evolving department. The successful applicants to this post will work alongside 6 existing consultant colleagues to provide core respiratory services and to further develop our sub-specialty services.

BHRUT is one of the largest acute trusts in the country and the biggest provider of acute healthcare services in NHS North East London. Our dedicated workforce of 6,500 staff and volunteers serve our local population of around 750,000, from a wide range of social and ethnic groups. We operate two Emergency Departments (ED) alongside other acute services. We are extremely proud to be working with the ground-breaking Virginia Mason Institute Programme to transform the care we provide for patients. We are one of only five Trusts in the country selected to take part and our patients will greatly benefit from the systems that have led to Virginia Mason receiving awards for excellent and safe care. We are also one of eight, national Vanguard sites, the only one in London, which will help spearhead transformational change in urgent and emergency care.

The respiratory department is an active and forward looking team composed of eight consultants and six Respiratory specialist registrars. The team is supplemented by dynamic specialist nurses who help to deliver care for patients with TB, lung cancer, COPD, asthma, NIV and Sleep disordered breathing. The department has a respiratory function lab located on both hospital sites. EBUS and Sleep Apnoea service are located at King George Hospital. Respiratory out-patients clinics and bronchoscopy lists take place on both the Queens and King George Sites. The team also supports the local community respiratory services linking with community based respiratory nurses, matrons and physiotherapists.

These post forms a part of a team of 8 consultant respiratory physicians who deliver a 7 day a week specialist respiratory service for inpatients at Queen’s Hospital. All respiratory In-patients are located on a 60 bedded respiratory unit at Queens Hospital. There are 30 beds each on Respiratory wards, with capacity for up to 6 NIV patients on each ward. The respiratory team provide a consultant delivered specialist respiratory on-call service on a 1 in 8 rota. The post holder will be supported in this by dedicated junior doctors and specialist nurses. The post holder will deliver out-patient respiratory clinics and bronchoscopy as part of their job plan.

Applicants must have full GMC Registration and be on the specialist register or be within 6 months of their CCST date at interview.
