An exciting opportunity has arisen for two gastroenterologists and hepatologist at Barts Health NHS trust , Whipps Cross University Hospital. The candidates will be provided with great opportunities and facilities to develop their careers in either Upper GI or lower GI including General hepatology & ERCP. We are seeking to appoint two substantive consultants. The post holders will work alongside the established gastroenterology consultants - Dr Sami Hoque (Clinical Lead), Dr Elspeth Alstead, Dr Elizabeth Carty, Dr Alan Watson, Dr Sudeep Tanwar, Dr Christian Ardley to support a large provision of inpatient, outpatient and endoscopy care.
Full registration with the GMC is essential or within 6 months of completion of CCT.
The post holders will support provision of inpatient and outpatient care for patients with general gastroenterology problems. Furthermore, the appointee will be pursue his/her interest in luminal gastroenterology , either upper GI or Lower GI (inflammatory bowel disease and nutrition, including capsule endoscopy) expected to perform endoscopy, including being part of the GI Bleed roster. There are MDTs in HPB medicine and general gastroenterology together with X-ray and pathology meetings. Endoscopy is provided within a modern 3-roomed unit with integrated screening which takes part in the National Endoscopy Programme. We were a part of the first wave in the National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme in early 2007 and will be part of the new Bowel Scope Screening in 2019/20. The Service also plans to expand the Endoscopy Service to create an additional 4th endoscopy procedure room, expected to be completed at the end of 2019/20. The post holders will also be a part of the general medical roster on weekdays 1.27 (no weekends).
Barts Health NHS trust, is one of largest Trusts in Europe, and Whipps Cross University hospital medicine division was awarded “good” at the 2019 CQC inspection. There will be an opportunity work cross-site at the neighboring Royal London site as well as the new diagnostic hub at Mile End hospital.Whipps cross is in scenic Epping forest with excellent local amenities and easy communication to central London. The area has very reputable private schools and golf course. Whipps Cross is currently undergoing a redevelopment plan to build a new campus hospital to commence in 2022.
