This is a truly exciting opportunity to join our dynamic and friendly Vascular Network Team in beautiful coastal Dorset.

Recently RBCH became the Dorset and Wiltshire Vascular Network (DWVN) arterial centre, undertaking all elective and emergency major arterial work for the region. The Network incorporates non-arterial sites at Poole, Dorchester, Salisbury and Jersey and there are opportunities to work at all sites. The network is still developing and there will be exciting development and service improvement possibilities for the post holder; specific interests such as renal access surgery or management of diabetic vascular patients can be incorporated into job plans. However, teamwork and a collegiate attitude is central to being successful in applying for this post as there will be a need for travel to clinical duties at the non-arterial hospitals. Teaching, training, clinical quality and safety have high priority at RBCH and more information can be found at The Royal Bournemouth’s website.

Dorset is in the process of a major reconfiguration of Hospital services, with the Royal Bournemouth Hospital being developed into the main Emergency Centre for the Region. The Dorset Clinical Commissioning Group recently announced the outcome of a fundamental clinical services review, which recommended Bournemouth Hospital as the Major Emergency Hospital for East Dorset; this would incorporate trauma, obstetrics, paediatrics and other key services on a single site with a new significantly larger purpose-built Emergency Department and Critical Care Unit. The plans have been through public consultation with a definitive announcement made in Sept 2017. This represents an incredibly exciting opportunity to be directly involved in the design, planning and implementation of vascular services across the region where developments include the possibility of a hybrid theatre and other clinical management pathways for vascular patients.

We are looking for enthusiastic and committed colleagues to join our dynamic team to help develop and deliver a first-class vascular service for Dorset and Wiltshire. The department is currently staffed by nine Consultants and supported by specialist nurse practitioners, junior staff and allied health specialists. Consultants will work a 1 in 8 on call rota with prospective cover. We understand the importance of sustainable working and are able to offer a highly attractive package for successful applicants.

Applicants must be on the GMC’s specialist register or within six months of completing a training programme recognised for the award of CCT or equivalent in Vascular Surgery.
