We are looking for a full-time Consultant Haematologist to join our dynamic and progressive team. This is a replacement post in a team of 7 Consultants providing a clinical and laboratory Haematology service for the population of Worcestershire (550,000).

Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust incorporates 3 main hospital sites in the County; Worcestershire Royal Hospital, Alexandra Hospital, Redditch and Kidderminster Hospital. The post-holder will be based at Worcestershire Royal Hospital, providing clinical and laboratory Haematology services and will also contribute to outreach clinics at Kidderminster and Evesham.

Additional PAs are negotiable following job-planning to include on call rotas for the Worcester Haematology laboratory and Clinical Haematology services.

The 7 Haematology Consultants work closely to provide a BCSH Level 2b Clinical Haematology service for the county in a busy 18-bedded ward at Worcestershire Royal Hospital. This includes a shared-care autologous stem cell transplant service (with University Hospital Birmingham). The ward is supported by 2 Specialty Doctors, 1 Specialist Registrar, a GPST1 trainee and an FY1 trainee, along with dedicated nursing staff including 4 Clinical Nurse Specialists, 1 Bone Marrow Transplant Coordinator and a clinical trials team.

We are currently in the process of integrating Herefordshire Clinical Haematology services (MDT and inpatient care) into our Worcestershire service.

We participate in the West Midlands Specialist Registrar training programme and host the FRCPath Part 2 examination. You will be involved in teaching University of Birmingham medical students and postgraduate teaching and examination for FRCPath trainees.

We are actively involved in clinical research, being a major recruitment centre for haematological NCRI trials. There will be the opportunity to develop a specialist interest if desired. There is provision for developing a research interest in connection with the University of Birmingham and the Institute for Cancer and Genomic Science in Birmingham. Applicants who have an interest in diagnostics may also have the opportunity to develop this interest through the department’s close association with the local SIHMDS.

It is a requirement for successful candidates to have completed Specialist Training in the UK or equivalent and be entered on the GMC Specialist Register for Clinical Haematology or be eligible to be listed within 6 months of interview.
