We are transforming Mental Health Services in Somerset and have exciting opportunities for you to be part of an expanding Community Mental Health Service. We are building on investments and therefore have an opportunity for a part-time Consultant Psychiatrist to join our Assertive Outreach Service.

The Community Mental Health service provides mental health support to individuals with complex, severe and enduring mental health difficulties. The service provides focused mental health interventions including Care Coordination; psychological therapies; medication prescribing and monitoring.

As part of this role, you will work closely with Team Managers across the Assertive Outreach Service to provide medical leadership to the teams. You will not be expected to hold all of the caseloads across the county; however, you will provide expert advice to colleagues to help them manage complex cases and advise local CMHT Consultants regarding further management. It is expected that you will also work collaboratively with Medical Managers and Operational Managers to further develop our growing service.

The role will have a strong overlap with the dual diagnosis team in the Trust, working closely with the relevant clinical staff to advice about the clinical management of complex, severe and enduring cases with alcohol and substance misuse issues.

The service has a very positive, supportive and dynamic culture that you would be expected to contribute to and benefit from. This is an exciting time to join as the service is developing additional roles to ensure we continue to provide excellent mental Health care in a modern and evidence-based service.

The service provides care from 4 main bases across Somerset in Taunton; Bridgwater; Yeovil and Wells and your base can be negotiated.

We are able to offer a generous relocation package - life in Somerset offers an outstanding quality of life, with easy access to the moorland and coast, a thriving arts and entertainment scene and excellent transport links via the M5 to the nearby cities of Bristol and Exeter. Somerset has some of the region’s most reasonably priced housing and a range of high achieving state and private schools.
