Consultant in General Medicine
Lorn & Islands Hospital, Oban
10 PA's per week
£80,653 - £107,170
Ref: MS17.19.62A

Applications are invited to join our General Medical team at Lorn & Islands Hospital, Oban, on the beautiful west coast of Scotland.  Due to retirement we have a vacancy for a Consultant Physician.  The post allows living and working in an area of outstanding natural beauty, the gateway to the Western Isles, a mecca for outdoor pursuits of all kinds, with good schools, a thriving music and arts scene, and only 2 hours from Glasgow city Airport.  If this sounds refreshing, then we are looking for you to join the team here in Oban.

The department of General Medicine is based at Lorn & Islands Hospital, Oban.  The Hospital is located on the southern outskirts of Oban and forms a hub for both acute and community services within the area. Purpose built in 1995, the Hospital houses a full range of facilities expected in a rural general hospital including a full 24 hour medical, surgical and anaesthetic service.  Duties are based at Lorn and the Islands Hospital and there are outreach clinics to community hospitals throughout Argyll.

The successful candidate will be a true generalist, who enjoys a hands on approach to medicine, able to work flexibly as part of an integrated team, with excellent communication and problem solving skills.  You would be part of a team of four consultant physicians with varied specialty interests.  You would be encouraged to develop your specialist interest as part of a network with specialists in Glasgow and Highland.  An active interest in teaching and support of our team of specialist nurses along with undergraduate students and junior doctors will also be important.

This vacancy is offered on the basis of 10 Programmed Activities per week.  Up to 2 additional PAs may be available by negotiation.  We are open to flexible working and applicants who wish to work part time are welcome to apply.

You must be on the General Medical Council Specialist Register with a Licence to Practise or within six months of obtaining CCT in General Medicine at time of interview. Candidates are encouraged to visit the department.

Applicants not currently on the specialist register for general medicine would also be considered for a fixed term contract in the first instance.
