Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust has a busy and vibrant endoscopy department and currently provides endoscopy services to the population of Worcestershire at Worcestershire Royal Hospital, the Alexandra Hospital, Kidderminster Treatment Centre, Malvern Community Hospital and Evesham Community Hospital. There are 8 endoscopy rooms across the sites. In addition to diagnostic and therapeutic GI endoscopy, we currently provide bronchoscopy and EBUS, cystoscopy and endoscopic ultrasound. The Bowel Cancer Screening Programme and Bowel Scope programme are both fully established within the Trust. There are plans to expand the provision of endoscopy services at the Alexandra Hospital and Kidderminster Treatment Centre to allow the service to meet rising demand.
The GI endoscopy team currently comprises 6 consultant gastroenterologists, 8 consultant colorectal surgeons, 5 upper GI surgeons and 4 nurse endoscopists. We currently receive around 1,600 referrals per month for GI endoscopy.
The endoscopy departments provide a full range of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy services as well as the provision of the bowel cancer screening and bowel scope programmes. Dedicated training lists are provided to ensure the training of gastroenterology and GI surgical trainees as well as future non- medical endoscopists.
The department currently provides complex EMR services in house and we are looking to expand the provision of complex endoscopy work and would welcome applications from candidates with experience in advanced therapeutic techniques or balloon-assisted procedures.
The future expansion of endoscopy services on the Kidderminster and Alexandra Hospital sites will allow for the concentration of complex, inpatient and fluoroscopically assisted endoscopy on the Worcestershire Royal site, as well as significantly expanding our current diagnostic capabilities.
Currently, the endoscopy department undertakes over 19,000 GI procedures each year. These comprise approximately 9,000 OGD, 10,500 lower GI scopes, 410 ERCP, 100 capsule endoscopies and 100 endoscopicultrasound.
This is a new post to cover increasing demand in endoscopy and we are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and forward-looking individual to join an evolving dynamic department. The post is for a full-time contract (10 PAs) but the option to work flexibly (less than full time) is available.
The job is available as soon as a successful candidate is appointed.
The successful applicants will support in the delivery of high quality, endoscopy care, undertake outpatient clinics and attend multidisciplinary team meetings As a consultant within Specialised Clinical services Division you are not required to take part in the general medical on call rota.
