Consultant in Palliative care
The Palliative Care Directorate in the Primary Care and Community Division of ABUHB is currently undergoing some exciting changes and developments, in partnership with our third sector providers. We are looking for a Consultant in Palliative Medicine who will be responsible for the effective and appropriate medical care of patients across the directorate supporting the teams primarily at both Nevill Hall Hospital and St David’s Hospice in patient unit. This is an exciting post that will offer opportunities across both the acute and hospice settings.
You will lead consultant ward rounds and multidisciplinary team meetings and supervise any junior medical staff or students who may rotate through the directorate. You may be required to perform domiciliary visits in the community to support local Specialist Palliative Care Teams. The post holder may occasionally be expected to provide cover at other hospitals, including the Royal Gwent Hospital and Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr. The post holder will also be expected to provide prospective cover for colleagues.
The multidisciplinary team includes consultants in palliative medicine, specialty doctors, nursing staff, clinical nurse specialists, social worker, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, complementary therapist, pastoral care and ABUHB general staff across the divisions.
The Health Board actively supports consultant doctors to undertake funded 3 month formal sabbaticals through an annual application process.
