Do you have a keen interest in Gastroenterology? Are you interested in gaining experience working with a large Gastroenterology team? If the answer is yes, then we have just the job for you!

You will be joining our highly rated Foundation Programme as a Trust Doctor at F2 Level, which although is not accredited as a training post, you will receive all the same benefits of F2 programme at Taunton and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust. This is a 12 month fixed term position, 40 hours per week.

The post holders will mainly look after inpatients with Gastroenterological disorder admitted to Musgrove Hospital, under the supervision of Gastroenterology consultants and specialist trainees. They will also support the day care unit, delivering paracentesis to patients with liver disease and other specialist treatments for IBD. In addition, the post holders will collaborate with one or more specialist services, including inflammatory bowel disease, artificial nutrition or hepatology, attend specialist clinics and multidisciplinary meetings, observe endoscopy procedures and contribute to the team research and audit portfolio.

The department of gastroenterology at Musgrove Park Hospital (Taunton and Somerset Hospital) runs a comprehensive service to West Somerset (350,000 population) with over 2,000 new outpatient referrals to the department and over 11,000 endoscopy procedures per year (eg: 2,213 colonoscopies, 1,550 flexible sigmoidoscopies, 4,073 gastroscopies, 329 ERCPs). There are currently nine consultant gastroenterologists providing the full range of gastroenterological care. Gastroenterology is part of the Surgical Directorate that incorporates Colorectal & Upper Gastro­intestinal/Bariatric surgery, as well as Vascular surgery.

You will be invited to join the F2 core curriculum running, as well the Severn HEE regional teaching for F2s, you will be allocated an educational supervisor and clinical supervisors, you will have access to the HORUS e-portfolio as an NTG. Within the clinical areas of this post you will receive the same level of teaching on ward, support with WPBAs and the F2 Programme Director will be able to you advise you on the CREST certificate (if appropriate), study leave allowance of 30 days and £563 study leave allowance.
