Facilities: Office accommodation is provided within Newport Community Learning Disability Team (CLDT) and at Llanfrechfa Grange. Secretarial support is based in Newport CLDT (4 Days) and full IT facilities will be provided.

The successful applicant will be responsible for providing  outpatient services to Newport, which has a total population of approximately 143,447 (current medical caseload 125).

The successful applicant would be expected to lead on the implementation of the community service review, the development of the community teams, outcome measures, audit and research in the community teams.

 The intention of the community service review is to strengthen the multidisciplinary community teams (including enlarging the medical workforce) and to broaden the work of the CLDTs. 

The LD Directorate is committed to developing a modern, evidence based, needs led service for people with a Learning Disability. This post provides an exciting opportunity to join an established and innovative directorate which is striving to provide excellent care for the population of Gwent who have Learning Disability. The LD directorate is working on a number of initiatives to improve patient experience and provide a modern LD service for the future while continuing to deliver high quality care.

 The Learning Disabilities Directorate sits within the Mental Health and Learning Disabilities Division of Aneurin Bevan Health Board. The Directorate is managed by the Clinical Director, Lead Nurse and Directorate Service Manager and the Division is managed by the Divisional Director, Lead Nurse and General Manager. 

The Health Board actively supports consultant doctors to undertake funded 3 month formal sabbaticals through an annual application process.

Free parking is available across all Aneurin Bevan University Health Board Sites.

This position involves Regulated Activity with children and adults as defined by the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act (amended by the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012) and the following checks will be undertaken following any conditional offer:

  • Enhanced check with barred list information, including
  • - an adults and children’s barred list check

Applicants must hold full registration and a licence to practice with the GMC

Candidates for Consultant posts must also be on the GMC Specialist Register (including via CESR/European Community Rights) or will have a CCT/CESR(CP) date within 6 months of interview.
