Applications are invited for an enthusiastic and motivated Consultant in Palliative Medicine to join the Martlets Hospice. 

This is a full-time, substantive post available due to the forthcoming retirement of the current post holder. The post attracts full NHS Terms and Conditions.

The job plan comprises 10 programmed activities (7.5 PAs for direct clinical care and 2.5 PAs for supporting professional activities) including a 1 in 6 second on call commitment. Applications for less than full time will be considered.

The appointee will join a team of four consultants providing medical support and leadership within the Martlets hospice and community settings.

Martlets clinical services include an 18 bedded specialist palliative care In-Patient Unit, a recently established and rapidly growing Day Services department and a busy community specialist palliative care service, which includes a dedicated Hospice at Home team.  In the most recent Care Quality Commission report (February 2016), the Martlets Hospice was rated ‘Outstanding’ for Caring and ‘Good’ overall.

The catchment area of Martlets, with a population of approximately 320,000, includes the city of Brighton and Hove and the coastal strip to Newhaven.  As a city, Brighton is vibrant, colourful and creative.  It benefits from excellent communication links, including being close to London and Gatwick.

The post includes a leadership role in medicines management and therapeutics and the opportunity to lead on service development within the growing Day Services department.

Applicants must have full registration with the GMC, with a current licence to practice and be on the Specialist Register, or be within 6 months of obtaining a CCT, at the time of the advisory appointments committee.
