St Mark’s Hospital and academic institute is a centre of excellence for gastroenterology specialist clinical care, research and education within London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust. The Trust is one of the largest integrated care trusts in the country bringing together hospital and community services across Brent, Ealing and Harrow.
We are inviting applications for a replacement post, which has been reconfigured to meet the changing needs within our gastroenterology service. The specific role of the appointee will be to support the provision of general gastroenterology to include ward rounds, endoscopy for inpatient and outpatients and on-call cover for the acute GI bleed rota. Furthermore, the successful candidate would be required to demonstrate a specialist interest in neuromotility disorders and nutrition.
This post will link gastrointestinal motility disorders with nutrition. The specialist role will involve supporting the biofeedback nursing team in the management of complex motility disorders and the GI physiologists with interpretation of motility investigations. There will be one specialist clinic dedicated to this aspect of work. In addition the post holder will be one of two designated consultants supporting the inpatient nutrition service for St Mark’s and Northwick Park Hospital. This will involve close working with the nutrition team and providing a link into the acute gastrostomy service. There will be support and interaction with the intestinal rehabilitation service at St Mark’s Hospital, which is one of the 2 national referral centres for intestinal failure. The post will integrate with the current specialities offered by the 28 strong consultant Gastroenterology team, which include GI physiology, endoscopy, inflammatory bowel disease, nutrition and hepatobiliary disorders.
There are excellent opportunities to participate in the academic and educational activities within St Mark’s. The post-holder will be encouraged to pursue research projects in neuro-motility and Nutrition.
There is no commitment to the general medical rota and the rota for Gastroenterology ward cover is a total of 9 weeks a year (worked in 3 week blocks). The post is open to applicants with CCT in
Gastroenterology/Medicine or those within 6 months of their expected CCT date.
