Why not come to South Australia and experience Emergency and Trauma medicine in Central Adelaide whilst enjoying all the region has to offer?  Some of Australia’s best beaches, world famous wine regions, the Fringe festival, Tour Down Under, V8 motor racing, the fantastic Adelaide oval and much more.

The Royal Adelaide Hospital (RAH) is South Australia's largest accredited teaching hospital. The Emergency Department sees 85 000 new presentations a year with a 46% admission rate. The casemix is adult only with approximately 10% seen within the resuscitation stream. The RAH is the major Trauma centre providing treatment to up to 1400 trauma team activations per year with 430 (30%) of these being classified as having serious injury. You will be working at the new purpose built New Royal Adelaide Hospital (nRAH), Australia’s most advanced hospital forming a critical part of the

$3 billion South Australian Health and Biomedical Research Precinct, which will be the largest health precinct in the southern hemisphere.

The role is envisaged to be 1 year in total with 6 months as the Emergency Medicine Fellow assisting the consultants in the running of the department and of the critically ill patients presenting to resus. The next 6 months will be as the Trauma Fellow dealing exclusively with trauma presentations from the resuscitation phase through their hospital journey.

Candidates suited to this position will be advanced trainees/post fellowship registrars in Emergency Medicine.  This is an Australian College of Emergency Medicine (ACEM) accredited position for Emergency Medicine (6 months) and for trauma (6 months special skills term). There is a strong audit and clinical governance package at the RAH and the successful candidate will get to participate in regular case audit and review. Both departments are supportive of, and actively involved in, Trauma Research (actively recruiting both PATCH and FEISTY Jr patients at present) as well as teaching at Fellowship level.  In essence, the Fellow is the link between registrar and consultant staff from all specialities.  The Emergency/Trauma service has a particularly close relationship with SA ambulance’s Statewide Retrieval Service (MedSTAR). Fellows are actively supported to attend MedSTAR’s monthly clinical governance day and encouraged to apply to work as retrieval registrars in the service.

This unique combined Fellowship will refine your skills in the management of critically ill and injured patients, offer an introduction to departmental management as well as strengthening your clinical governance skills in preparation for consultant life.

The South Australian public sector promotes diversity and flexible ways of working including part-time. Applicants are encouraged to discuss the flexible working arrangements for this role.

Appointment will be subject to a satisfactory Criminal History Check.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants are encouraged to apply.
