Consultant in General Radiology and GI Imaging

Luton & Dunstable University Hospital (LDUH) is a 700 bed district general hospital offering tertiary level services across a range of specialties, including bariatric surgery. The latest CQC inspection awarded this hospital an overall rating of good, with some areas, including diagnostics, as outstanding. Diagnostic services have also been rated exemplary by GIRFT. 

We are seeking to appoint a well motivated radiologist with sub-specialist expertise in Non-Vascular Interventional and Lower GI and HPB Radiology to complement our existing range of expertise. We would also consider applicants with Head & Neck and Neuroradiology interest. These are new posts that have arisen as a consequence of service expansion. The interventional department provides many non-vascular interventional procedures. The successful candidate should be proficient in all types non-vascular interventional radiology, particularly urology and hepatobiliary intervention.

Development of new interventional services would be encouraged and supported. Lower GI and hepatobiliary radiology is delivered by two radiologists who work closely with six lower GI surgeons and two HPB surgeons.

The department provides many specialised cancer and non-cancer imaging tests. The successful candidate should be proficient in all types of GI and HPB imaging and would be expected to participate in GI and HPB MDT.

This department is fully committed to teaching and training both undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors. We currently have four Specialist Trainees and one senior clinical fellow.

The Hospital has always been renowned for its friendly atmosphere and good working relationships. The Trust has University Hospital status with UCL and the Royal Free, which provides an opportunity to strengthen our teaching and R&D program and brings a more academic environment to the hospital.

LDUH sits on the edge of the Chiltern Hills. The rural areas include many attractive villages and towns within easy reach of the Hospital including St Albans and Harpenden. Excellent schools are found nearby. There is also very good access to the Midlands and London by road and rail and London Luton Airport is within fifteen minutes’ drive from the hospital.

Applicants must be fully registered on the UK General Medical Council’s Specialist Register and have FRCR. Specialist Registrars may apply if within six months of CCT.
