Specialty Registrar in Upper GI Surgery
Applications are invited for the post of Specialty Doctor in Upper GI Surgery based that the Castle Hill Hospital, Cottingham.
This busy department comprises of 8 Consultant Surgeons, 3 Specialist Registrars from the Yorkshire Deanery, 2 Trust Grade (Tier 2 Acute Surgery on-call rota), 1 Specialty Doctor (Castle Hill on-call rota), 2 CT2s and 4 FY1 doctors. The Department is supported by 2 Clinical Nurse Specialists for Cancer as well as a Bariatric Specialist Nurse.
The Department of Upper GI Surgery serves the people of Hull and the East Riding which equates to a population of approximately 550,000 with some specialist services aimed at an extended catchment area of 1.2 million people. There is an active Postgraduate Centre and excellent library facilities at the Hull Royal Infirmary.
To succeed, you must have clinical train and experience to that required for Specialist Training Level 5, have the proven ability to attend to a range of problems in both emergency and elective surgery, as well as the ability to organise and manage outpatient priorities, surgical waiting lists, operating lists and rotas. You must be an excellent communicator, be strong working in a team and have both a caring attitude to patients with a critical and enquiring approach to work.
The post is initially for a period of 6 months, extendable to 1 year plus on satisfactory progress with a planned start date of August 2019.
The successful candidate will be expected to participate in a middle grade on-call rota at the elective surgery hospital (1:6, non-resident).
