A brand-new GP position has been created by Defence Primary Healthcare (DPHC) for a Civilian Medical Practitioner (CMP) at the RAF Boulmer Medical Centre, Alnwick, Northumberland. This is a perfect opportunity for those seeking clinical leadership of a small team. The team at RAF Boulmer comprises; a Practice Nurse, a Physiotherapist, a Practice Manager plus 3 admin personnel. DPHC are in addition seeking to recruit a Nurse Practitioner to support clinical delivery and governance.

RAF Boulmer is situated along the Northumberland Coast; an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). The base itself is less than a mile from the coast. Northumberland, the county with more castles than any other, describes itself as a mix of ‘Coast and Country’. This AONB is a perfect example of what this county has to offer. Alnwick, a lively country town, 5 minutes by car, is the closest town to Boulmer. It offers a wide and varied range of attractions, including famous castles, unique shops, and restaurants selling local produce from land and sea. The nearest railway station is at Alnmouth (on the main east coast line) - under 3 ½ miles from Boulmer, and the A1 is similar distance. Whilst some consider Boulmer remote, it is very well connected. Edinburgh is 90 miles to the north and Newcastle-Upon-Tyne Metro Centre to the south is just 40 miles. Also, Boulmer isn’t so far from the rest of the world; Newcastle-Upon-Tyne ferry port offers overnight crossings to Holland, whilst Newcastle Airport offers flights to Europe and the UAE; for North America, Edinburgh International is less than 100 miles away. Schools in Alnwick are rated from good to outstanding by OFSTED. Housing is plentiful with a 4-bedroom house selling for c.£290,000.

There may also opportunities for GP Training, Sports and exercise medicine, Travel and tropical medicine, Family planning and Disaster medicine.

Based at RAF Boulmer, this will be your main place of work, but there will on occasion be a requirement to support clinical delivery at one of our Army bases; Albemarle Barracks. Albemarle is just over 40 miles away from Boulmer, and, when required, you may need to spend a minimum of 2 days per week at this facility.

You will develop practice output to meet the organisation’s vision: DPHC– “Provide and commission safe and effective healthcare which meets the needs of the patient and the chain of command.”
