Applications are invited for a locum consultant physician specialising in Care of the Elderly at Newham university Hospital, to join our enthusiastic and progressive team of 5 full time and 3 part time consultants. The post is for 1 year initially, and commences 1st August 2019.
Newham University Hospital is in the heart of the London Borough of Newham, the site of the 2012 Olympic Games, and area which continues to be developed as a major transport and commercial hub The hospital is part of Barts Health NHS Trust, one of Britain’s leading healthcare providers and the largest trust in the NHS. The Care of the Elderly department at Newham Hospital is well established and highly regarded. We are committed to comprehensive specialist elderly care covering all acute and community services. We are integrated with General Medicine and operate specialist age related (over 75) acute and rehabilitation wards. The Geriatricians take a leading role within the Medical Admissions Unit. We have an orthogeriatric department and surgical liaison. There is an acute and rehabilitation stroke unit which is linked to the Hyperacute Stroke Unit at the Royal London hospital, and is in the top quartile in the Stroke Sentinel audit. We run busy, diverse outpatient clinics based within Newham hospital, and our community services include Day Hospital, Falls Clinic, Intermediate Care, Virtual Ward, Continuing Care and Nursing Home assessments. At Newham University Hospital we are proud to have developed an award winning diagnostic memory service, both for inpatients and outpatients.
The successful candidate will have a varied role including acute and rehabilitation ward rounds, outpatient clinic, and a weekly session in Medical Admissions unit
Candidates should hold full registration with the GMC. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within six months of CCT at date of interview. Non UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training. The successful candidate must be able to work within the dynamic and friendly multi-disciplinary team.
