Human Experimental Medicine
This fully-funded 3-year post provides PhD training in an internationally renowned research environment in the Endocrinology group of the BHF/University Centre for Cardiovascular Science.
This post will investigate the regulation of human brown adipose tissue activation and determine whether manipulation of the serotonergic pathway can increase energy expenditure as a novel strategy to treat metabolic disease. This research will involve training in detailed physiology measurements in humans in the state-of-the-art Edinburgh Clinical Research Facility and Edinburgh Imaging Facility in the Queen’s Medical Research Institute, home to 600 leading clinical and non-clinical medical researchers at the Royal Infirmary campus. Previous research experience is not essential, and trainees in any clinical discipline will be considered, but applicants must be eligible to practice medicine in the UK. The starting date will ideally be in October 2019 but is negotiable.
This post is available on a fixed term basis, with a working pattern of 40 hours per week for 36 months.
