We currently have several opportunities for specialist doctors who have a keen interest in patient safety management and improvement to join the Devices Clinical Team within the Devices Division of the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) as Senior Clinical Advisors.
The Devices Division’s goal is safer medical devices, safely used and it is the primary source of expertise within the MHRA and the Department of Health and Social Care for matters relating to safety, quality and performance of all medical devices. It is also the UK Competent Authority for the Medical Devices Regulations. The Devices Clinical Team provides and sources clinical advice for the Devices Division to ensure that everything the division does has relevance to patients, with safety as the overriding principle.
In this role, you will provide high level clinical advice to support the functions of the Agency, in particular the Devices Division. You will liaise closely with the relevant Agency areas and external organisations.
We are looking for doctors who specialise in the areas of:
- general surgery
- general practice
These roles are part time, to enable you to continue with some clinical practice to maintain your skills and knowledge in your area, whilst working with MHRA to improve the safety and effectiveness of medical devices on a national, European and international scale. Posts are also being offered on a part time secondment basis.
Appropriately qualified, you will have current or recent clinical medical practice at a senior level in a relevant specialty and will be familiar with the use of multiple medical devices in a clinical setting. We are looking for candidates with experience of clinical audit, clinical investigation assessment and the ability to work on clinical guidelines. Above all, you will be passionate about improving patient safety, including through human factors considerations, and quality improvement activities.
Superb analytical skills are essential for this role, as you will work with complex medical and scientific data and will be able to critically appraise and apply research findings. You will be able to quickly gain credibility and inspire confidence in your colleagues and will have the proven ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
